No minutes from the inaugural meeting at Tulliallan Police college November 1998 were presented but these are attached for reference.
Due to the limited turnout at the start of the meeting the agenda items were not taken in order.

7. Referees Course.
This is going ahead and is likely to be held in Glasgow in February. Libby will confirm a date and take deposits. Karen pointed out there was a woman’s tournament in St. Albans on 19th February and a clash of dates should be avoided.

8. Inter-Regional Tournament.
The Scottish Ladies team is definitely going to this tournament. The mens team needs to be selected within the next week. Ben, Graeme and Duncan are still currently selectors for this.

4. Scottish National Octopush Tournament (SNOT).
Glasgow propose to hold the tournament in 2000. After a brief discussion it was agreed the tournament should be held 2nd week in April each year. The proposed date for next year being Saturday the 8th.
The rota for clubs holding the tournament was agreed as;

Edinburgh
Glasgow
Aberdeen Reef Rats
Aberdeen University
Inverness

Orkney were not put on the list as they were already holding an annual tournament early May.

6. Encouraging New Teams.
It was mentioned that Inverness was helping Alness to get started and Orkney were helping Wick and Ulapool. It was generally agreed that SUHA should be pro active in this area. The Dundee area was considered and Tim offered to follow up on known players in this area. Debbie proposed a tournament for new teams.
Publicity was briefly discussed and Libby offered to contact Mike Calvert, who was likely to get articles into magazines such as run by SCOTSAC, hopefully with come and try dates in March.
It was suggested that hockey information packs should be sent out to new clubs. A lot of this information exists or is on the web and Neil agreed to print some packs by the end of January and contact Martin Reed who is co-ordination this for the BOA.
Publicity was seen as important in promoting the sport and use of local papers etc. is to be encouraged. Debbie offered to collate articles for future use.

5. Developing Scottish National Teams.
The afternoon’s pool session would look at team positioning but Tim suggested distribution of a manual that could be used prior to tournaments. This was to avoid situations where team formation and positioning are carried out just before the start of a major tournament. It was proposed that Ben (in absence) should collate and distribute this information.

3. Scottish League Structure.
The current structure of home and away games has not worked in the last few seasons. The lack of enthusiasm has mainly been due to limited pool time for the several hours of travel involved. It was suggested that with six teams, three mini tournaments be held instead, with four teams at each tournament.
Gordon Brigleman (Edinburgh) had previously offered to help on such matters and it was proposed that he co-ordinate the new format which would commence June 2000.
This format would involve additional pool bookings.

1. Presentation by BOA Chairman.
Keith gave an insight into the structure and politics of the governing bodies for underwater hockey including some correspondence regarding the lack of eligibility of Scottish teams for this years European Championships. In short, the block on eligibility comes from CMAS who have links with the Olympic Committee (IOC).
Clarification on rulings has been at best muddled and progress has been hindered by the lack of access to an english version of CMAS rules.
There has been a break up lower down the structure with BUSA being favoured as the
representative body rather than BSAC and a further reorganisation relating to CMAS is expected next spring which could provide a way forward for Scotland to participate at international level.
The current structure down to SUHA level is attached.

2. Purpose of SUHA.
There was insufficient time to allow a full discussion on this broad topic but the following was agreed
A constitution to be drawn up. A. Skene to be contacted as he has format for this.
A training manual in time is to be produced.
A pool of kit for newer clubs was discussed. In theory it was seen as a good idea but it was felt that at this stage existing local clubs could handle this more effectively.
SUHA Posts:
As SUHA would be involved in running tournaments it was essential it had its own bank account (treasury) and had a treasurer. Debbie White was accepted for this post.
Two signatures would be required on a cheque but more than two people would be eligible.
Club membership was set at £20.00
Chairman - Tim Dale was proposed and he accepted.
Secretary – Alistair Skene proposed (in absence). If not accepted Graeme Tough would accept, but to distribute duties between clubs, the treasurer’s post would then go to Karen Douglas.
Club Representatives – Two from each club to attend meetings etc.

Due to time limitations the meeting was closed at this stage.
